Canter Lends a Home of Our Own to San Diego Fire Department

CANTER SAN DIEGO FIREFIGHTER

Today the San Diego Fire Department conducted firefighting training on a Canter development property in San Diego’s North Park district just before we break ground on Elevon Lofts, a 10-unit urban infill development project designed to accommodate the growing rental population in metro San Diego.

This isn’t the first time Canter has offered a demolition property to the Fire-Rescue Department and we plan to continue to support our local fire fighters with properties that will aid in the training of searches, rescues, and escapes through simulated fire and smoke.

Battalion Chief, Battalion 4, A Division of the City of San Diego Fire Department Grace Yamane said, “We appreciate Canter Companies for the opportunity to train at the Bancroft site. We were able to run sixteen firefighters through a simulated structure fire with an occupant rescue yesterday. Some of these firefighters have only been on the job for a few months and relished the opportunity to put their newfound training to use,” said Yamane.

Located at 3767 Bancroft, the vacant, single-family home sits on a 6,250SF lot downtown.

“The crews made entry into the structure to search for the “occupant,” put out the “fire” while also performing roof ventilation to exhaust the “smoke and heated gases,” which provides an occupant with better survivability.  Today we plan on providing similar training to another batch of firefighters.  We look forward to Canter’s continued support of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department,” said Yamane.

Canter Companies aims to develop both residential and commercial properties to improve San Diego’s urban fabric, targeting territories where the San Diego community can benefit most.

Our CEO Andrew Canter stated, “If we can give the  San Diego Fire Department a stage on which to train their firefighters while enhancing the city core with an infill development, then everyone wins.”

Elevon Lofts is one of many Canter developments including C2 Lofts in Hillcrest and Ten on Columbia, located in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood.

Elevon Lofts will begin construction next month and is estimated to be complete in early 2018 after the 3 on Cedros project, located on Cedros Avenue between the Del Mar Racetrack and the Cedros Avenue Design District in Solana Beach. The three 2,600SF homes are slated to open late this year.
